Seasonable weekend after frigid week
A cold northwesterly flow off the Great Lakes promoted several days of clouds and occasional light snow showers, with a few breaks of sunshine. A southwesterly flow of pushed temperatures slight above the freezing mark for the first time since last Sunday morning, when rain abruptly turned to heavy snow.
A mid-level disturbance kept some high cloud cover through the day, as high pressure near the surface builds in. Skies will be clear tonight, with morning readings around 20 degrees.
As the expansive high-pressure zone slides off to the Southeast coast, the weather will moderate during the coming days. Temperatures on Sunday will reach the low 40s in most areas, with sunshine.
A strengthening southwesterly surge of mild air will offer a break from the deep chill this week. On Monday, readings will climb into the upper 40s and low 50s.
Rain showers are likely with a disturbance arriving Tuesday and Wednesday midweek. Temperatures will be well above-normal to start the week, with a gradual cool-down behind a cold front moving through Wednesday night.
