We put Ana Luisa's tarnish-proof jewelry to the test — its gold-plated and 10k gold pieces have held up against showers, sweating, and everyday wear

We tried a bunch of Ana Luisa pieces — and the brand gets high marks when it comes to quality and style.

Sustainable, trendy, and affordable, Ana Luisa jewelry seems too good to be true. But after wearing their gold and gold-plated pieces consistently, we can confirm that they live up to the hype. They even won the top spot in our guide to the best places to buy affordable fine jewelry, and are featured in our list of the best hoop earrings. Its stainless steel chains, however, had slowly tarnished by the end of summer spent swimming and sweating.

Luckily, it all comes with a 2-year warranty. But if you're curious about trying Ana Luisa and want something that'll last, you should go for the gold. Its Voyager collection is a prime place to start: each piece is made with 100% recycled solid 10-karat gold and maintains a beautiful shine, even after everyday wear.

Co-founders David and Adam built Ana Luisa to be a brand that's open about its design strategy in order cut down on emissions (even though most of the jewelry industry is cagey about its manufacturing processes). It debuts small batch drops of products to see which styles resonate, prioritizes its best-sellers, then discontinues anything that creates more waste than profit.

Here's what our team of style editors thought after trying Ana Luisa jewelry.

Sam's review of the Julie Cho Pearl Choker and Double Hoop Earrings

"I'm incredibly sensitive to nickel — so much so that I get a rash within minutes if the jewelry I put on contains any of the metal. Even pieces that say they're for sensitive skin or contain no nickel often corrode, leaving the irritating metal exposed. But I've been wearing Ana Luisa pieces for over a year with absolutely no issues. The pieces still feel great and I've never once felt even a whiff of irritation, let alone a rash. I'm also a fan of how lightweight the jewelry, particularly the earrings, are. Even with somewhat chunky hoops, I can forget that I'm wearing them.

"And when it comes to style, Ana Luisa really hits the mark. They're great at making jewelry that you actually want to wear. As someone who loves everyday jewelry but feels uninspired by ultra-delicate, tiny pieces, I love that Ana Luisa isn't afraid to venture into bolder silhouettes." — Samantha Crozier, style and beauty editor, Insider Reviews.

Gabi's review of the Pebble necklace

"Pendant necklaces are a lovely type of jewelry, but they're not typically what I go for, since they're usually they're adorned with some sort of talisman or coin. The Pebble pendant necklace, however is a simple, sculptural teardrop that subtly reflects light with its asymmetrical, oblong design. It's my favorite Ana Luisa necklace so far (and there's also matching Pebble stud earrings,so you can wear them all as a set).

The necklace is surprisingly lightweight and its long, thin chain pairs well with a button-down or V-neck sweater. You can make it longer or shorter with its three hoops, so it's perfect for creating a layered look." — Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor, Insider Reviews.

Gabi's review of the Kiara earrings, the viral Bottega Veneta dupes

These are a dupe of the Bottega Veneta earrings that went viral last season. They're chunky, gold, and kind of look like a water drop or a quotation mark. The originals cost $820, which is a pretty penny for a trendy piece. But Ana Luisa makes a pair that looks exactly the same but only costs $75.

Here's what our style editor Gabrielle Chase had to say: "Ana Luisa's Kiara earrings are hypoallergenic and dipped in 14 karat gold that's polished to a shiny, tarnish-resistant finish. Even for a statement earring, they're the perfect size for me to wear casually like the it-girls who popularized them tend to do (though I must first pay credit to all the elementary school art teachers who made chunky jewelry cool to begin with). This affordable alternative is practically indistinguishable from the real Bottega Veneta earrings, and best of all, they cost over $800 less."

Gabi's review of Ana Luisa's silver-plated jewelry

"I will admit that I do not take precious care of my jewelry. I tend towards earrings and necklaces that are comfortable to shower, swim, and sleep in, because anything too delicate won't last with the way I operate.

This Ana Luisa chain bundle is only silver in color: the earrings are rhodium, and the chains are a mix of stainless steel and brass, but their shiny coating is hypoallergenic and water-resistant.

The hoops and snake chain have stayed in perfect condition for months, but the clasp on the steel Figaro chain has slowly began to tarnish. It's the single instance I've noticed this from Ana Luisa jewelry. For this reason I recommend that if you're shopping silver jewelry from Ana Luisa, make sure it's genuine sterling silver or rhodium on brass instead of stainless steel. Otherwise, you may be following up on their 2-year warranty." — Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor, Insider Reviews

Gabi's review of Ana Luisa's Sofia earrings, a Cartier dupe

Ana Luisa's designer dupe collection includes styles for fans of classic statement jewelry. The Sofia studs ($75) look just like these rare vintage Cartier shell earrings and remind me of the Art Deco revival of the 1980s. I like that they come with sturdy rubber back stoppers to hold the chunky earrings in place. — Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor, Insider Reviews.

Gabi's review of the Slim Nova ring

"Here I am, wearing a ring for the first time since I lost one when I was seven years old. I decided then and there I wasn't responsible enough to wear rings. This ring is hard to miss, though, as you can see by the way it refracts light with its textured design. I like that it's lightweight and slim enough to stack with. The hollow ridge on its interior feels like a place for dirt to get trapped, though, so I use a soft toothbrush to get it thoroughly clean.

The Slim Nova ring is part of Ana Luisa's Voyager collection, which is the brand's expansion into affordable fine jewelry with a sustainable edge. These pieces are made with 100% recycled metals and are a bit more expensive because they're made with solid gold. The metal has maintained a brilliant shine, and despite gold's malleability, has proven to be totally dent-proof during everyday wear. — Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor, Insider Reviews.

Gabi's review of the Sloane earrings

"I love a stacked earring look, but since I only have my lobes pierced, I have to get creative in order to pull it off. The Sloane stud earrings are how I do it. You can also wear them with a gold cuff, and it makes it you look like you were brave enough to face the needle more than once.

They're just the right size to hug the lobes, but aren't big enough to be a statement earring, either — this way, I can wear them daily as an edgy departure from my plain hoop earrings." Gabrielle Chase, associate style editor, Insider Reviews.

Lily's review of the Hana Marble Blue Earrings

When they first arrived I — like many other buyers that left reviews — was confused about which side faces forward as only one side has the marble design on it. The other side is gold.

In most brand photos, the models have the earrings with the blue facing outwards, but there is a picture of someone else on the site wearing them the opposite way. I tried wearing them both ways and preferred having the pattern facing forward, especially when I had a lot of video calls or wore my hair down.

There are several iterations of this design including, the Kinoko Marble Blue for people interested in the texture but looking for a different shape, and the Hana Wave for anyone who likes the shape but not the pattern.

Lily's review of the Rope Slim Ring

The Rope Slim Ring stood out as my favorite piece of all. It was comfortable and stylish, and I found myself reaching for it all the time.

You can choose from nine sizes from 4 to 12. The 7 size ring fit really well on my thumb, pointer, and middle fingers.

Interestingly, this ring seemed to be really familiar to others. I had family tell me it looked like an old school ring my grandmother had worn and friends tell me it looks like a similar trendy ring from Mejuri as the ring is timeless and embraced by people with different styles.

The bottom line

Wearing Ana Luisa jewelry, I feel put together and stylish, and excited to be supporting a brand that is serious about sustainability.

In fact, David shared with Insider that Ana Luisa "became Climate Neutral Certified, and have worked with this nonprofit organization on building a 2-year reduction plan to decrease carbon emissions in [their] supply chain."

I'm a big fan of Ana Luisa and am going to make sure I check out all of their new drops when I see their next Instagram ad.
