Troy's Radz ready to return to court
The Troy High sophomore shooting guard is sporting a white headband bandage these days to cover the staples in the back of his head.
Hurley certainly does not expect Radz to "wax on, wax off, sand the floor or paint the fence" as Daniel Larusso's character was required to do in the 1984 movie, but the Troy coach is counting on the sophomore to provide the Flying Horses (20-3) some perimeter kick Saturday afternoon when they face Rochester-area champion Bishop Kearney (15-7) in the state Class AA semifinals at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Radz endured a horrific-looking fall in Troy's regional win over Henninger when he landed on the back of his head after being undercut by Justin McGann.
Radz began his first varsity campaign coming off the bench before earning a starting nod.
The sophomore is averaging 6.6 points per game for the Flying Horses, including a team-best 34 3-pointers.
Since the middle of January, Radz has been more assertive looking for his shot and has hit 24 treys in the last 12 games.
Radz' offensive capabilities have never been in question, but the 5-foot-10 guard struggled initially at the defensive end.
Coach Hurley has been on me to take things more seriously at this level, Radz said.
