Man Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison for Murdering His Pregnant Girlfriend for Refusing Abortion

A married man has been jailed for murdering his girlfriend who refused to abort her unborn baby. Tragically, the child also died as a result of the brutal stabbing in Birmingham, England.

Filmon Andmichaen, 31, was sentenced to a minimum term of 27 years last week after being found guilty of murdering his girlfriend and her unborn baby in Birmingham on 1 August 2023.

Mr Andmichaen stabbed Liwam Bereket, 26, when she was 27 weeks pregnant. An emergency Caesarean was performed, but the child also died.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how Mr Andmichaen pressured Ms Bereket to have an abortion, which upset her, and she resisted.

Prosecutor Sandip Patel KC told the jury that Mr Andmichaen “decided the life growing inside his girlfriend was a complication he was unwilling to accept… His solution to this was a permanent one.”

Justice Choudhury, presiding over the case, said that Mr Andmichaen’s “intention at that moment could only have been to end her life and that of her unborn child.

“Her attempts to get you to assume responsibility for the child caused you to lash out in frustration.”

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Coerced abortion is shockingly common and can lead to further abuse and violence, and sometimes even murder. A Savanta ComRes survey of British adult women in 2022 found that 15 per cent of respondents felt pressured into having an abortion in some way.

“Despite this grim reality that blights so many women’s lives, abortion coercion is largely ignored by mainstream media and the abortion industry. This is a great betrayal of the women that abortion apologists purport to serve and protect.

“In many cases, abortion serves selfish men who turn to violence to avoid responsibility. This is an ongoing scandal, one that must be called out for what it is. To prevent it, we must first recognise that it exists at all.”
