John Krasinski and Matthew Rhys team up for Prime Video serial killer series
An American and an “American” are doing a two-hander. John Krasinski and Matthew Rhys are teaming up to executive-produce and star in “Silent River,” a serial killer thriller series for Prime Video, Deadline first reported.
“Silent River” is described as a drama that explores the cracks that break open in a small town in the wake of the discovery that a serial killer lives among them, told through the eyes of two men (Krasinski and Rhys) whose lives are far more connected than they realize. It’s created by “Jack Ryan” writer Aaron Rabin, who also serves as executive producer. Krasinski will direct the pilot and additional episodes, and veteran TV director Andrew Bernstein (“Ozark”) will direct and executive-produce. Allyson Seeger and Alexa Ginsburg will also executive-produce.
News of the series comes as Krasinki and Seeger’s company Sunday Night Productions re-ups its first look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Krasinski starred in and executive-produced the spy series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” for the studio, and is returning to star in a “Jack Ryan” movie directed by Bernstein and written by Rabin.
“We are thrilled to continue our work with John Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Sunday Night on this gripping series, which delves into the mysteries and secrets of small-town America,” Amazon MGM TV head Vernon Sanders said in a statement to Deadline. “With John and Matthew Rhys attached to star in this wonderful story from Aaron Rabin, our global customers will be on the edge of their seats throughout this thought-provoking, psychological thriller.”
Krasinski, who was recently named People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2024, is coming off “IF,” a family film he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. He is also known for the “Quiet Place” franchise and “The Office.” He is a three-time Emmy nominee for “Lip Sync Battle,” which he co-created.
Rhys won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018 for the final season of “The Americans,” his acclaimed FX spy drama. More recently, he starred in the series “Perry Mason” and appeared in the films “Cocaine Bear” and “Saturday Night.” He will next be seen in the Netflix limited series “The Beast in Me” with Claire Danes.
