Four ballparks to host WBSC Premier12 Group B, Super Round and Finals

Asia will be the home of the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS Group B, which starts on Wednesday in Nagoya (JPN) and Taipei (TPE) with three venues in two cities hosting the 15 games.

Vantelin Dome Nagoya

The
Vantelin Dome will host the game between Japan and Australia on November 13. Itis located in Nagoya, the largest city in the Chūbu region and the fourth-mostpopulous city in Japan. It is a geodesic dome, a hemispherical thin-shellstructure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic (or made from triangles)polyhedron.

The Dome, which opened in 1997, has a capacity 36,418 for baseball and 49,000 for concerts. It has served as the home field for NPBs Chunichi Dragons since its opening and also served the Orix Blue Wave and Kintetsu Buffaloes.

The field is 328 feet (or 100 metres) at the foul poles and 400 feet (or 122 metres) in centre field and has artificial turf as well as a roof which towers 67m in the air.

Taipei Tianmu Stadium

Tianmu
Baseball Stadium will host eight Group B games.

Originally designed as a community ballpark in 1999, it is located in Tianmu Sports Park in Shilin District, Taipei City. It has a 10,500-seat capacity.

The field has artificial turf and measures 325 feet (or 99 metres) in left and right field and 400 feet (or 122 metres) in centre field.

Tianmu
Stadium welcomed international baseball in 2001, when it became the main venueof the Baseball World Cup.

It recently hosted the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2022 and the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2023.

The Taipei Dome

The Taipei Dome, also known as the Farglory Dome, will host six Group B games. The multi-purpose domed stadium is located in Xinyi, Taipei City.

Construction broke ground in 2012 but was put on hold in 2015 and resumed five years later. The facility was completed in 2023 and finally approved in November of the same year. The open-door test event welcomed 13,000 spectators. The final capacity of the Taipei Dome is 40,000 for sporting events but will reach 50,000 for music events.

The fieldmeasures 335 feet (or 102 metres) at the foul lines and 400 feet (or 122metres) in centre field and has artificial turf.

The WBSC Premier12 will be the first major international event featured in the venue.

In the second stage, the top two finishers of Group B will play the first and second-place teams of Group A. From November 21 to 24, the Tokyo Dome will host the III WBSC Premier12 Super Round and Medal Games.

The Tokyo Dome

Construction of the Dome began on May 16, 1985, and opened on March 17, 1988. Its dome-shaped roof is an air-supported structure, a flexible membrane supported by slightly pressurising the inside of the stadium.

It was built on the site of the Velodrome, adjacent to the predecessor ballpark, Korakuen Stadium. Depending on the configuration, it has a maximum total capacity of 57,000. The Dome's familiar nickname is The Big Egg.

The playing surface is field turf. The field is 100.28 metres (329 feet) long on the left and right and 122 metres (400 feet) wide in the centre.

The Tokyo
Dome is the home field of the NPB Yomiuri Giants and has hosted the Premier122015 semifinals and Medal Games and the Premier12 2019 Super Round and MedalGames. It is the location of the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Domehas hosted various Major League Baseball games and games of the 2017 and 2023World Baseball Classic. It has also hosted music concerts, basketball, Americanfootball and various combat sports events.
