Lankshear made a real name for himself in the 2023/24 campaign, firing Tottenham‘s youth side to the Premier League 2 title, and he’s now worked himself into Ange Postecoglou‘s first-team plans.

But, who is Will Lankshear? Here’s all you need to know about his goalscoring record, his market value and salary, and his comparisons to Harry Kane.

Where did Spurs sign Will Lankshear from?

Tottenham signed Will Lankshear from Sheffield United in the summer of 2022, with the young striker joining the club’s development side.

Say it quietly, but Lankshear actually started his career in the Arsenal academy, but he was released by the Gunners and signed a scholarship deal with the Blades in 2021.

After impressing there, Spurs paid £2m for Lankshear, in what was, at the time, a good deal for Sheffield United. That price now looks to have been a steal for Tottenham, who have one of the brightest young English strikers on their books.

An incredible year in Premier League 2

Lankshear hit the headlines during the 2023/24 season thanks to a 25-goal haul throughout the campaign, as Tottenham’s Under-21 side stormed to the Premier League 2 title.

18 goals in 19 league games, plus a further five in four as Spurs won the play-offs (and another couple in the EFL Trophy) made Lankshear the top goalscorer in his age group last term.

He won the Golden Boot, and was also named the Premier League 2 player of the season, too.

Will Lankshear’s salary and market value explained

Will Lankshear reportedly earns £3.4k per week at Spurs, which is a pretty decent wage in relation to the Under-21s, but makes him the lowest-earner in the senior squad.

That should come as no surprise, really. Lankshear has only just begun to break into the Spurs first-team squad, and his salary of £176,800 per year reflects that.

It’s hard to put a price tag on Lankshear at this time, but given his original transfer fee was £2m and he has obviously improved a lot since then, we’d estimate Spurs would value him at around £5m right now.

Promotion to Tottenham’s senior squad

After his phenomenal performances in the 2023/24 campaign, it was only a matter of time before Lankshear made his way into Ange Postecoglou’s plans, and he has been working with the first-team squad since the summer.

Lankshear was included in the pre-season tour of Asia, and while it was heavily suggested he would depart on loan for the season, Postecoglou decided to keep the young striker close by instead.

The 19-year-old has been on the bench twice in the Premier League for the games against Brighton and Manchester United.

He made his full Spurs debut in the Europa League in the win over Ferencvaros, playing 66 minutes as the lone striker, and putting in a fairly impressive performance, too.

Taking to Instagram in the wake of his debut, Lankshear wrote: “A really proud moment for me to make my competitive debut for this amazing football club and most importantly getting the 3 points. Thank you to all the travelling fans.”

Postecoglou has praised Lankshear publicly in the past, making note of how the young striker has stepped up to the plate in training.

Speaking to Football.London, he said: “I just love watching [Mikey Moore and Lankshear] in training at the moment. They want to play, they want to make an impact. They don’t look or behave like 18, 19-year-olds. Which is great for me. When they’re 21, they’re hopefully going to be flying and it’s part of our responsibility to develop them.”

Who did Will Lankshear score his first Tottenham goal against?

Lankshear was named in Postecoglou’s starting eleven for Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray in November 2023. The forward latched onto a Brennan Johnson pass to tap the ball high into the net to level the score at 1-1.

Unfortunately, Lankshear was later sent off in the match having picked up a second yellow card in the 60th minute and later issued an apology.

Harry Kane 2.0

Many fans have likened Will Lankshear to Spurs legend Harry Kane, from the way he moves on the pitch to his incredible finishing ability.

Lankshear is a tall, physically strong striker who is able to use his body intelligently to draw fouls, beat his man, and win the ball in the air.

He’s good with his feet, has great vision, and knows exactly where the back of the net is. His impeccable range of finishing — be it long-range strikes, composed finishes one-on-one, or finessed efforts from inside the box — has been likened to the kinds of goals Spurs fans saw from Kane during his time in North London.

Will Lankshear was born in Welwyn Garden City in England on April 20, 2005, making him 19-years-old at the time of writing.

He stands tall at 1.89m high, and weighs 80kg, making him one of the more physically imposing figures in the Spurs squad.
