Harry Redknapp predicts where Tottenham will finish this season
Harry Redknapp has offered a prediction on whether Tottenham will secure Champions League qualification this season.
Top four finish expected
It can be argued that Ange Postecoglou overachieved in his first season at Spurs, especially after losing Harry Kane, taking the club from eighth place (in 2022-23) to fifth.
Fans and the Tottenham hierarchy will want to see progress this season, with a top-four finish expected of the side.
However, that is unlikely to be straightforward, with the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Chelsea looking set to battle it out for fourth.
Redknapp offers prediction
However, Redknapp believes that the distraction of Champions League football will likely dent Villa’s hopes of securing back-to-back top-four finishes.
The 77-year-old acknowledged that Chelsea look well-placed to launch an assault on fourth but he named his former side as the favourites to secure the final guaranteed Champions League spot.
When asked who he expects to finish fourth, Redknapp told talkSPORT: “Tottenham are looking good. They are looking strong. I still think for me, I think Villa obviously are involved in the Champions League. It’s going to be tougher for them this year.
“The fourth spot really, I can see Tottenham getting that fourth spot. They would be my favourites even though Chelsea are coming as well.”
Postecoglou sets aim higher
Most Spurs fans will likely take a fourth-place finish if you offered that to them now but Postecoglou is unlikely to do so.
The Australian has not been shy of putting pressure on himself and the side by making it clear that he is aiming to win silverware and close the gap with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Whether Tottenham have the required consistency to do that remains to be seen.
