Netflix star sparks hope hit series WILL return – a year after it was brutally axed
A NETFLIX star has sparked hopes for their hit show to return in some form.
US medical drama The Resident initially aired on FOX from 2018 to 2023.
The premise followed the lives of staff members at a fictitious Atlanta hospital, Chastain Park Memorial, while delving into the bureaucratic practices of the hospital industry.
All six seasons were made available to UK Netflix users beginning September 20.
Manish Dayal, who starred as Dr Devon Pravesh throughout the show’s run, has addressed its axing over one year later.
The actor, 41, told TVInsider: “It’s bitter-sweet because I would have loved for the show to keep going.
“I would have loved to see Devon find the family he always yearned for and wanted. I think it’s two-fold.
“He embarks on this life as a doctor, risking it all and giving it all up because of his ambitions.
“He is going to work really hard and six years later after becoming a resident himself, he realises that ironically he was in the same position where he started.”
Manish added: “He still has to give up so much for a commitment he made years ago.
“It would have been nice to see him settle down and marry his fiance.
“At the same time, I think audiences know where it’s headed and believe in that relationship.
“They know they are destined for a real future. I think the show did amazing things.”
The actor also praised the show’s executive producer for being “committed” to its stories.
He elaborated: “Amy Holden Jones was committed to shining a light on these issues in a way I don’t think so many people have been.
“She stayed committed to the pilot all the way to the last episode of Season 6. She was unwavering in that way.
“I love my cast. We all miss each other and stay in touch and remain very good friends.

He finished: “You better believe [I could see it return]. I would love it.
“It would be great for all of us to reunite and come together in a spin-off or something like that.”
