Roster of shame
AT his sentencing today the disgrace of Huw Edwards will be complete.
Whether or not one of the BBC’s highest paid stars goes to prison, his name will remain for years — if not the rest of his life — on the Sex Offenders Register.
That would be a significant punishment for a man once lauded as a king in his field and lavished with riches by his fawning BBC bosses.
It is the least he deserves for joining the ranks of paedophiles whose sickness allows a market for child sex images to flourish in the dark corners of social media.
Those children — including a boy as young as seven — have already had their lives destroyed.
That Edwards has lost his wife and family — and all the honours that went with a once glittering career that is now over — is nothing by comparison.
For the BBC, Edwards becomes another star name on its roster of shame that includes Jimmy Savile, Rolf Harris, Stuart Hall and others.
A pathetic response has left bosses promising yet another review into working practices — and scrambling to recover £200,000 they scandalously paid their star newsreader after his child sex pictures arrest.
As Edwards faces judgement, spare a thought for the brave couple from Wales who helped bring him down.
For over a year they were vilified as liars and relentlessly trolled online as many on the Left — blinded by their hatred of tabloid journalism — chose to believe Edwards over them.
They now have to rebuild their own shattered lives.
Act on boats
THE belated appointment of Border Security Commander Martin Hewitt has been overshadowed by yet more tragic migrant deaths in the Channel, highlighting why he needs to hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer will meet Italy’s leader Giorgia Meloni today saying he welcomes her strong ideas on cutting illegal migration and is ready to listen to her plan to have asylum claims processed in Albania.
Critics may wonder how that differs from the Rwanda plan he was quick to veto, but any deterrent is better than none.
Whatever he decides, he must act fast before more migrants perish.
Dressing down
DAVID Lammy whines that Lady Victoria Starmer was right to accept designer dresses from Labour backer Lord Alli because she needs to “look her best” and doesn’t get a lavish budget to do so.
So a free home and the PM’s £167,000 salary aren’t enough?
Surely she can afford her own High Street frocks.
Accepting dubious donations from a millionaire while forcing everyone else to tighten their belts is not a good look.
