UK weather: Met Office reveals forecast for last weekend of summer holidays as Brits pack out beaches ahead of 27C heat

BRITS are set to pack out beaches with 27C weather this weekend while one part of the country is battered by thunderstorms.

The Met Office has revealed what’s in store for the country over the next two days – the last weekend of school holidays and of summer.

Beaches in the likes of Bournemouth and Southend have been crowded with sun worshippers over the past few days.

Saturday will be dry and fine for most of the country, but the south west will see cloud and rain and possibly even thunder.

Temperatures will be about average with Bournemouth set to hit 23C, Lincoln 20C, and Edinburgh 20C.

Cloud will move over much of the country on Saturday bringing with it increased humidity in the air.

But the warmer night will lead to a warmer day with London set to hit 27C, Lincoln 26C, and Holyhead in Wales 21C.

The southwest again will likely see heavy showers and possibly even thunderstorms.

The east of the country could also see some rain.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: “Conditions could briefly turn very warm, or even hot, across parts of the south and east.

“There’s a chance of temperatures into the high 20s for some – it’s very much dependent on cloud breaks.”

But he warned: “The forecast later this weekend and into the early part of next week comes with larger uncertainties than average.

“There is a complex interaction of a number of volatile, small-scale weather features over and around the UK.

“We are keeping warnings under review, and will look to issue them over this weekend as forecast confidence increases.”

Forecaster Alex Burkill said: “Showers look like they could become a bit more widespread on Sunday.

“The greatest chance of some thundery downpours comes in eastern parts of the UK.

“But they could spread a little further west into central areas too.

“It’s worth noting these thundery downpours could be impactful, we could see some intense rain, hail and gusty winds.”

The sunny weather comes as the Met Office said Britain saw less sunshine this summer than normal.

It was also cooler than average as temperatures dipped, they said.

And some regions were swamped by record downpours.

Even Storm Lillian set a miserable milestone last week – as the twelfth named storm of the season.

Provisional figures for the Summer are expected to be released by the Met Office on Monday and will make grim reading.

It comes after Storm Lilian caused chaos for festival and concertgoers with thousands of Brits affected.

At the Leeds festival last weekend, stages were closed for the entire weekend due to safety fears.

UK 5 day weather forecast

Saturday: Fine for most places but cloudier in the south and southwest with some thundery showers around southwest coasts.

Light winds but fresh in the northwest. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine.

Sunday to Tuesday: Cloudier with some thundery showers on Sunday but temperatures peaking in the southeast.

Unsettled into the new working week with a chance of showers and some longer spells of rain.
