Amazon selling Laura Mercier concealer for £30 – but there’s a £7 alternative one shopper claims is ‘the best I’ve used’

Amazon is selling a concealer from top beauty brand Laura Mercier for just a little over £30. That’s quite a pretty penny.

But there’s a £7 alternative that shoppers are going crazy for – with one happy shopper calling it the best concealer they’ve ever used.

Concealer is the Holy Grail in my make-up bag: always has been, always will be.

It covers those dark under-eye areas and blemishes, and helps to brighten my complexion. Honestly, it’s my hero item.

I’ve tried and tested a lot of concealers in my time, including Laura Mercier’s Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer, which you’ll currently find for £30.42 on the Amazon website.

It’s an undeniable excellent product, but I’m also a fan of the e.l.f Hydrating Satin Camo Concealer, which retails for £6.96 online at Amazon.

That’s quite the price difference, I think you’ll agree.

Amazon shoppers gushing about the el.f. concealer have pointed out the similarities between both products.

Indeed, one buyer also says it’s ‘comparable to Tarte Shape Tape Concealer‘ – which, at £29, is another costly concealer.

There are a number of reasons why I often prefer e.l.f. Cosmetics to more luxury beauty brands – and it’s not just the price.

The brand prides itself on using gentle ingredients suitable for all skin types, plus it’s vegan and cruelty-free.

The formulation has been designed to achieve a velvet-soft satin finish on the skin, which is natural, not too “cakey”, and budge-proof.

The full coverage design means this concealer is ideal for longer wear: think about those epic days where you head straight from the office to dinner and drinks.

What I’ve found especially impressive is that the concealer comes in 25 shades: you’re bound to find one tone that’s right for your skin.

This wide variety also means you can use lighter shades to conceal, even highlight, as well as deeper tones to contour your bone structure, in replace of foundation, as well as other products.

A noteworthy feature is the doe-foot applicator, which can take adjusting to.

The wand is larger than other liquid concealers I have tried, from the likes of Nars and Laura Mercier.

While this may not make for precise application, it does mean you get through less of this: a little goes a long way.

The Laura Mercier version has been hugely popular, and while the main website stocks 22 shades, only 12 are available to shop online at Amazon. However, it still is three shades less than e.l.f.

Laura Mercier’s concealer has been described as “medium to full coverage”, and functions in the exact same way as e.l.f.’s affordable creation.

It’ i’s lightweight on the skin, especially on the delicate eye area, and has a finer wand for precise application, and contains just 1ml more product than e.l.f’s design.

Both e.l.f. and Laura Mercier claim their products are long-wearing, though this is sometimes hard to prove as you have to consider your skin texture on the day, the weather, and what you’re up to.

But, on paper, the e.l.f concealer claims to provide 16 hours of wear, in contract to 12 hours from Laura Mercier.

Having trialled both over the years, it’s safe for me to say they are both equally as long-lasting.

But e.l.f. cosmetics is a thicker formulation and offers stronger coverage.

Both concealers claim to be crease-free, but I find brands that make such sweeping statements a little problematic.

In my opinion, to guarantee no make-up product collects in your creases or pores, you’ll need to consider your skin type.

Then there are other variables like your skin preparation, your make-up application and the after-care you use, such as setting spray.

I’m a fan of both beauty brands, and their concealers, but considering the price difference on this deal, I think e.l.f cosmetics is the winner.

But don’t just take my word for it: fellow Amazon shoppers have sung the e.l.f cosmetics concealer’s praises, with one hailing it “the best concealer I’ve used!”

The happy shopper went on: “I’m in my 50s, and have tried a gazillion concealers. This one is fabulous!!

“It feels hydrating and light to apply. A LITTLE GOES A LOOOOONG WAY!

“It doesn’t settle into the few lines I have and helps cover my very dark circles well.”

A separate beauty buff added: “[I] love everything about this concealer. Affordable, amazing coverage and [it] lasts all day.”
