Scoring sacrifice works for Eagles
DELMAR — This past September, ESPN debuted "Numbers Never Lie," a show devoted to statistical analysis.
[...] Section II basketball aficionados know the scoring stats from Bethlehem senior point guard Bridget Murphy this season surely have been deceitful.
Murphy's scoring average is down, but only because she defers to players such as sophomore center Gabby Giacone or sophomore guard Kaylee Rickert.
Murphy, a first-team Suburban Council all-star and a second-team Large School All-Area choice by the Times Union as a junior, averages 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.3 steals.
Bridget has always been appreciated for her scoring, and people that really know basketball appreciate her.
[...] people that may only see the box scores don't see the assists, the rebounds, the defense or all the little things she does.
Murphy limited Colonie's Sydnie Rosales to five points in a 50-48 victory Dec. 14 and harried Shaker senior star Madison Rowland into 4-for-19 shooting Jan. 25, when Eagles prevailed 53-40.
Murphy, who registered her first career triple-double earlier this season, has raised her scoring totals since the beginning of January, averaging 15.6 points over her past 11 outings.
