Haircare pro promises washing locks less often can make them stronger – the best way to do it so you don’t look greasy
A HAIRCARE expert has revealed the secret to going longer between washes without locks feeling greasy.
She said her tips can strengthen tresses and leave them feeling luscious.
Victoria Panting (@victoriajpanting) is a technical educator at the UK-based haircare company Paul Mitchell.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared advice for improving the health of locks.
STRENGTHEN STRANDS
Panting revealed going longer between washes can improve hair and scalp by retaining natural oils.
She said that having more sebum protects, moisturizes, and strengthens hair leading to less breakage and a less brittle feel.
“Training your scalp to go longer between washes involves gradually adjusting your hair care routine and giving your scalp time to adapt,” she said.
The haircare expert shared two tips for extending wash intervals.
“If you currently wash your hair every day, start by washing it every other day,” she said.
“Slowly increase the interval between washes by a day each week or every few weeks.
“If you find you are washing your hair daily/more frequently because the ends of your hair feel dry but your roots are OK using a product like lavender mint co-wash can be a fantastic choice.
“This will add moisture to the ends of your hair and give a very mild conditioning cleanse in your roots.”
Panting recommended using an affordable product to keep hair looking clean in between wash days.
“On days you don’t wash your hair, use dry shampoo to absorb excess oil and keep your hair looking fresh – Paul Mitchell Dry Wash,” she said.
“Be sure to apply it primarily at the roots and let it sit for a few minutes before brushing it out.”

Panting said overusing hair products and having an unhealthy diet can impact how often locks need to be washed.
“Limit the use of styling products that can build up on your scalp and hair, as this can make it feel greasy and necessitate more frequent washing,” she said.

The advice comes after trichologist Hannah Gaboardi told The U.S. Sun eating fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats stimulates hair growth.
