The 16 best places to shop for outdoor patio furniture in 2024

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Spend more time outside with durable and stylish furniture designed for outdoor living. These are the best places to find patio furniture.

No matter the time of year, you will inevitably be drawn outdoors to lounge under the brightness of the sun or gather with friends around a fire pit. You can't do that well without furnishing your outdoor patios — big or small — with lounge chairs, couches, tables, and the like.

Designing your outdoor spaces will take some thought. Beyond considering how you will use your space, the budget, and decor style,  you'll need long-lasting furniture that holds up against the weather. We gathered a list of the best places to shop for outdoor furniture, whether you're looking to outfit a sprawling deck to a tiny balcony. We've considered retailers that fit every budget, style preference, furniture type, and environmental needs. Keep reading to discover which stores made this list and why we love their bistro tables, couches, lounge chairs, water-resistant cushions, and more.

Outer
Outer offers affordable, recycled plastic-based furniture for all, with unique built-in covers to protect cushions when not in use and a unique Neighborhood Showroom program.

Co-founded by Jiake Liu and Terry Lin, the latter a former designer for IDEO (Pottery Barn), Outer has made waves with its outdoor furniture made largely from recycled materials. In addition to its signature outdoor sofas, the brand also offers outdoor rugs, coffee tables, and lounge chairs, and a fire pit.

Outer's sofas come in weather-resistant wicker, teak, or aluminum, depending on your budget and/or material preference. The brand is distinctly unique for its OuterShell design, an integrated water- and UV-resistant cover that protects furniture from rain, pollen, and dust when not in use. One of our favorite things about the brand is that it developed "neighborhood showrooms'' so prospective shoppers can get a hands-on experience through already-satisfied customers within their neighborhood, who then receive compensation for the showing.

Worth a look:

Wayfair
Wayfair is a veritable sea of patio furniture — much of which is often on sale — meaning your chances of finding something to match your style and budget are high.

Wayfair has more on offer than we could ever keep track of — gazebos, pergolas, sectionals, and even full-sized outdoor fireplaces, as well as outdoor decor and accents. There are thousands of products in stock and ready to ship. If you can't find what you're looking for here, you may have bigger problems.

The online retailer carries patio furniture from its own private lines but also sells pieces by smaller, more affordable brands as well as options from established companies like Fermob, which has been outfitting Parisian cafes with unbelievably sturdy and compact bistro tables and chairs for nearly 70 years.

Worth a look:

Article
Article applies its midcentury modern design ethos and commitment to affordability to its outdoor furniture offerings.

You'll find clean lines and stylish mid-century modern outdoor furniture at Article. The brand launched in 2013, and in the simplest of terms, they've made outdoor patios look as cool and chic as living rooms, with a commitment to value and good design.

We love their statement outdoor pieces like the Bixby Ochre Brown Side Table, especially matched with more traditional midcentury furniture designs like the Laholm Dravite Ivory Sofa. Expect many of the chairs and side tables to have midcentury tapered legs, low couches and chairs with wood, woven, and metal elements, rounded edges, and fun pops of colors like the Skane Green Coffee Table. Article is the way to go if you're aching to elevate your outdoor patio and impress your friends.

Burrow
Burrow continues to expand its modular outdoor furniture offerings with its sophomore outdoor collection, Dunes.

We're big fans of Burrow's easy-to-assemble and modular furniture that adapts to your needs and space, and think it's one of the best places to buy a sofa. Burrow released its first outdoor collection in 2023, and it has been exciting to see the same smart design applied to the brand's patio furniture.

We tried a Relay Sectional Set, a four-piece sectional with the option of adding an ottoman and a coffee table. Each piece took only a few minutes to assemble, and we were able to try several different arrangements before we found the perfect setup for our patio (the sections lock in place with included metal clamps). We love that we can shrink, expand, or reconfigure the couch, and don't have to worry about whether it'll fit into whatever space we move to next. The seating is comfortable and the fabric is weather-resistant and durable. Burrow's outdoor collection is a worthwhile investment, especially if you tend to move around a lot.

Worth a look:

Amazon
Amazon has a lot of designs similar to those you'll find at major brands, but at a fraction of the price.

You can find every type and variety of outdoor furniture and home decor on Amazon: garden benches, side tables, outdoor chaise lounges, rocking chairs, porch swings, Adirondack chairs, you name it. Amazon does an especially great job at offering big patio sets — with sectionals, cushions, tables, and chairs — for a decent price.

We've tried a number of different Amazon-based brands for outdoor furniture and have been thoroughly pleased so far. We recently ordered an outdoor patio set from Phi Villa through Amazon. Apart from being incredibly heavy (powder-coated steel), it assembled easily and has seen plenty of rain without a cover. We've found no rust, nor any screws that have loosened.

We also tried this bistro-style set of folding tables and chairs because while we had our eyes set on a Fermob set, we weren't prepared to spend $500 on a small outdoor table and chairs.

Worth a look:

Yardbird
Minnesota-based outdoor furniture company Yardbird makes its pieces from recycled ocean plastics, commercial-grade aluminum, and water-resistant teak.

Yardbird is a younger outdoor furniture startup founded by a father-son duo in 2017.  So far, the direct-to-consumer brand has repurposed over 430,000 pounds of plastic into its furniture. It also now has a number of showrooms and partnerships with select Best Buy locations to see its furniture in real life.

Backed by three-, five-, and 10-year warranties on defects, Sunbrella fabrics, and frames, respectively, the brand offers handmade furniture that can stand shoulder to shoulder with pieces by companies charging twice as much.

We can't stop eyeing the handwoven wicker sectional sofas, that look like rattan, but are weatherproof thanks to the fact that they're made from much more durable recycled plastic.

The brand also offers teak dining furniture, which, it goes without saying, is not made from recycled plastic collected from the oceans. It will cost you about as much as it would anywhere else, but you'll also get that great warranty we mentioned.

Worth a look:

CB2
If you want modern outdoor furniture, CB2 covers all the bases — from sleek and minimalist to polished-industrial — with a few traditional options, too.

While it's a modern-leaning offshoot of pricey parent brand Crate & Barrel, CB2's furniture is still markedly more affordable than other options in the same vein.

Our favorite piece overall is the Taiko 76" Stained Teak Outdoor Loveseat with Sunbrella Cushions, which could fit in with just about any decor thanks to its sleek, minimalist look with no armrests. For something a little fresher, this PVC-cord Acapulco chair is also on our list of favorites.

Worth a look:

Ballard Designs
Atlanta-based Ballard Designs has been in the mail order business for going on four decades, partnering with some of the finest designers in the business including Bunny Williams and Miles Redd.

Ballard Designs has come a long way since its inception in 1983 as a humble mail-order business, but the brand has stood the changing tides of the commerce market through the Home Shopping Network and into the internet era.

Offering classic chaises, dining sets, swings and daybeds, and even custom pieces, Ballard Designs does it all, from classic weather-ready cast-aluminum furniture, which looks and withstands weathering just like wrought iron but weighs a fraction, to ultra-modern gas firepits and mosaic fountains.

The brand does a great job with classic, romantic-style pieces like the Cape Town Outdoor Sofa with Sunbrella Cushions. One of our favorite pieces is this stately-looking Amalfi Chaise, which would go great on a garden patio or a pool deck.

Worth a look:

The Home Depot
The Home Depot is the perfect place to affordably deck out your patio, with tons of dining and conversation sets.

The Home Depot is all about home improvement, and once you've invested in one of the best grills, its also a one-shop stop for improving your outdoor spaces with their wide range of budget and mid-priced patio furniture. They've got a diverse selection of patio sets from their own private labels like Hampton Bay and Stylewell, to brands like Polywood or Hanover Home.

Home Depot really shines in table seating and multi-piece sets made of wicker, plastic, wood, or iron, like the Hampton Bay Lakewood 5-Piece Eucalyptus Patio Chat Set with CushionGuard Spa Cushions.

Expect a lot of classic or farmhouse styles or simple outdoor pieces. Not to mention a plethora of outdoor accessories like rugs, lanterns, umbrellas, and fire pits—it's an outdoor living mecca. Plus, it's not uncommon for The Home Depot to offer discounts and sales on its patio furniture.

In addition to patio design ideas, they have a plethora of how-to articles like how to hang your hammock, videos on small space patio sets, and even how to clean and store outdoor furniture.

Worth a look:

Target
If you're looking for high-quality pieces at budget prices, Target is a great place to start.

From hammocks to outdoor fire pits to beautiful patio dining sets, Target offers an array of outdoor furniture for any size space, especially small space outdoor furniture, from its own brands and national ones. Plus, it has a wide selection of accent pieces to add character to an outdoor space and complement existing decor or furniture. Its patio accent tables start at under $30.

Worth a look:

Frontgate
Frontgate delivers high-quality, European-style across its outdoor assortment.

Frontgate carries commercial-grade bistro furniture that can withstand years of restaurant life. In fact, most of their outdoor furniture is backed by a 10-year warranty.

The high-end furniture brand has a timeless European-inspired design, with many customizations available from fabrics to materials. The product assortment also includes outdoor decor and accessories, from heat lamps to outdoor games and recreation. There's also a large selection of outdoor storage furniture, dozens of rugs, and bistro tables and chairs

Worth a look:

World Market
World Market, which first opened its doors on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf in 1958, offers more brands — let alone products — than we could ever sort through.

Patio furniture doesn't have to cost a fortune, and World Market's lounge sets, cotton hammocks and hammock stands, and outdoor accent tables are a testament to that. Still, you're getting quality goods, and while the prices are already fair, there's almost always a sizeable sale happening. And, if you're looking for Adirondack chairs, this site is probably one of the more affordable places to find them.

Through the "shop the room" feature, you can browse themes and aesthetics along the lines of Rainbow Vibes and Desert Daydream, which are tidily curated, fun, and extremely helpful for when you're not quite sure what goes with what — no shame here.

We're also a fan of the retailer's fun, thoughtful "inspirations" page, where you can find entertaining ideas, decorating tips, how-tos, and more.

Worth a look:

Serena & Lily
California-based Serena & Lily does coastal living to a tee.

Serena and Lily is high-end coastal living done right. If you're looking for outdoor furniture that can weather winter, spring, summer, and fall, you'd do well with Serena and Lily. Think wooden furniture with crisp white accents and plush pillows, and substantial lounge sets woven with thick, dyed acrylic that won't give way to sun and salt anytime soon. Couple with durable outdoor rugs to unique umbrellas for a look that comes straight out of a catalog.

Worth a look:

West Elm
West Elm offers a variety of attractive outdoor furniture, including sustainable pieces, across a range of price points.

West Elm offers a plethora of modern outdoor furniture made of sustainably sourced weather-resistant materials. Whether you're looking for wood, wicker, aluminum, or steel, it can be found on its website.

West Elm offers various outdoor lounge and dining collection from modern farmhouse-inspired to woven wicker to colorful, sleek metal furniture. Pair with various decor like pillows, planters, and umbrellas and entertaining pieces like melamine serveware.

Worth a look:

Polywood

When Polywood started out of a garage in 1990, it became the first company to produce outdoor furniture from recycled plastics. Today, its Polywood lumber — which is high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic that mimics the look of wood — is made with a 99% waste-free process.

An Adirondack chair was Polywood's first design, and while it remains one of their most popular pieces, they've given it some modern updates. You can see what we mean with the Polywood Modern Curveback Adirondack Chair. In addition to traditional wood tones, the chairs are available in several vibrant colors.

We tested and wrote a review on our experience with the Polywood Acadia 6-piece Lounge Sofa Set. The water-resistant set came in so many color options. Not only was it comfortable, but the cushions repelled water well, the set required little maintenance, and we found it especially comfortable.

Bend Goods
With its fun, durable, wire designs in vibrant and neutral colors alike, Bend Goods offers a fresh take on outdoor furniture.

These vibrant, heavy-duty pieces made from powder-coated and electroplated galvanized iron are not going anywhere fast. This is industrial-grade outdoor furniture that's built for anything and everything you could think to throw at it. We're completely smitten by this bench.

The brand also makes similarly playful stools, chairs, and tables.

On our list are this bistro table and these bar stools, which could just as soon land inside as out. Don't be surprised if you see these lining bar tops at a watering hole near you; they're certainly built for all of the wear and tear nightlife has to offer.

Outdoor furniture FAQs

What are common materials for outdoor furniture?

Outdoor furniture can be made with a variety of materials. Aluminum, metal, and wrought iron are quite popular. Wood, whether it's teak or hardwood, is common, too. Wicker, eucalyptus, and bamboo are more natural-looking materials, while plastic and synthetic resin are typically considered cheaper outdoor furniture materials. Cushions are made with a variety of textiles, most of which are either stain—and water-resistant or water-proof.

How long does outdoor furniture last?

Depending on the material and how well you take care of it, outdoor furniture can last up to 15 or 20 years. Aluminum, wicker, wrought iron, hardwood, and teakwood furniture can last quite a long time if you properly maintain them, such as by storing them in the winter, giving the furniture fresh paint jobs every few years, or oiling and resealing wood. It's a good idea to store cushions inside when not in use to protect them from the elements and animals. Furniture placed under a patio covering may also last longer than those exposed to the rain and sun.

How do you store outdoor furniture in the winter?

The best thing you can do in the winter is to bring outdoor furniture indoors, be it a garage, shed, or storage unit. We understand that not everyone has the space or even the financial capabilities to do so. (At least bring the cushions inside!) You could invest in outdoor furniture covers or tarps that fully cover the outdoor pieces. Most companies will sell covers alongside their products. If you notice snow, ice, or leaves on the coverings, remove it immediately. If you go the cover or tarp route, you may want to use water-repellant spray on the furniture, too.

When is the best time to buy outdoor furniture?

You will find more outdoor furniture options and new styles available at the end of spring and the beginning of summer. Shop early for the best selection, and some brands may have a longer lead time for delivery. However, if you're looking for the best outdoor furniture deals, the end of the summer is the best time to find the lowest prices as retailers make way for their fall inventory, though you could find some great deals on outdoor furniture around holidays like Memorial Day and Independence Day.
