Luka Doncic on his Real Madrid DNA: 'It stays with you'

Following a win to start the Western Conference Finals of the 2024 NBA Playoffs Presented by Google Pixel, Luka Doncic talked about going back to his roots, using his experience with Real Madrid in a leading performance for the Dallas Mavericks. “Once you play there for many years. And I won there. So, it kind of stays with you,” the Slovenian sensation replied about his Real Madrid DNA in the postgame press conference, “Sometimes you just remember those beautiful moments when you win and what it means to win.”

62 paint points for the Mavs in G1 is tied for the most Minnesota has given up in the postseason. Denver had 62 in their Game 5 win in the last round. Rundown of the Mavs inside scoring is Kai – 20, Luka – 10, Gafford – 10, Jones Jr. – 8, Lively – 8, PJ – 4, Hardy – 2. – 1:28 AM

The Mavericks got huge nights from their superstars, which earned them a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference finals against Minnesota. Here’s what they had to say about combining for 63 points (and Luka’s defense).

If you believe a lot of winning games at this stage of the postseason is about your best players:
Kyrie Irving – 2nd highest first half scoring output in his 87 playoff games (24 points)
Luka Dončić – 2nd highest 4th quarter scoring output in his 41 playoff games (15 points) – 12:37 AM

I actually thought the Wolves defense did what it set out to do. Luka and Kyrie went off, but they didn’t get a whole lot more from others.
Offense failed them more tonight. Have to adjust to a completely different defensive approach. – 12:09 AM

First half was all offense — Kyrie had 24, Luka 14, Jaden 19, Ant 13, SLOW-MO 11
Second half was all defense, neither team scored 50 after halftime… Kyrie was 1/9 in 2nd half, Ant 2/9, KAT 3/11. Luka was only one in double figures after half (19) for either team – 11:21 PM

Two things that would scare me if I’m Minnesota:
