As an agronomist, he’s an expert in soil management and crop production, including the science behind it.
According to Peeler, there is no one-stop solution that will leave your grass green all summer.
“There is no substitute for a solid lawn turfgrass management program,” he said.
“It takes consistency with fertilization, watering, mowing, weed control, disease control, and sound agronomical practices.”
However, Peeler does have a helpful hint that makes the process less intensive.
“One thing that has certainly made it easier with less intensity is the utilization of liquid fertilizers,” he explained.
“Applying a nitrogen, iron, and micronutrient liquid fertilizer can help to quickly enhance the overall color of the lawn, resulting in a deeper and darker green within a few days.”
He revealed that this trick works particularly well if your grass is iron deficient.
Peeler recommended the Darker Green or Lawn Energizer products from Simple Lawn Solutions.
WACK WEEDS
He also shared his best advice for tackling weeds that sprout up on your lawn.
“Weed control is best managed before it begins,” Peeler explained.
“Using pre-emergent weed control is the best management tool to protect against weed infestation later in the season.”

However, even pre-emergent herbicides aren’t 100% effective for your entire lawn.
“There still can be localized spots of weeds that require post-emergent control,” he said.
BALD SPOT, BEGONE!
The lawn professional also revealed the top way to fix bald spots on a patchy lawn.
“Sodding is the quickest way to fill bare spots in the lawn,” he explained.
“Sometimes that is not practical so seed must be applied.”
Peeler recommended “working the seed into the soil and covering it with wet paper solutions or straw.”
He revealed that this “helps maintain moisture so germination can take place.”
MOW WORK
For overall care, he advised against mowing your grass too low immediately.
Instead, Peeler suggested trimming it down gradually every time.
“Mowing the lawn too low in a single mowing can be detrimental because it opens up the leaf tissue to pathogens and other stresses,” he explained.
“Blades should always be sharp when mowing at proper heights.
“Never remove more than a third of the leaf tissue in a single mowing.”
Peeler also warned against overwatering your lawn and emphasized the importance of irrigation accuracy.
