Soda of the Week: Olipop tastes like too much and not enough at the same time
Welcome back to FTW’s Beverage of the Week series. Here, we mostly chronicle and review beers, but happily expand that scope to any beverage that pairs well with sports. Yes, even cookie dough whiskey.
I write about sports for a living. As such, I drink a stupid amount of diet soda.
This is part of the job, like having opinions on Bruce Springsteen or, as of 2023, knowing things about Taylor Swift. Every press box or media workroom you’ve ever seen will begin with a healthy stash of zero-calorie sodas, only to see it run out long before the regular Cokes dwindle.
Fortunately, we’re in a whole era of diet soda glory. Sure that applies to your Sprites Zero and the like, but there’s a swell of smaller companies pushing their way to the forefront, promising big flavors and modest calorie counts. Last week, I talked about United Sodas of America. Today I’m drinking Olipop.
Olipop had been on my radar for a while, though its $2 per can asking price at my local Woodman’s effectively kept me away. But since non-alcoholic beverages are making a real push for consideration this summer, it felt like as good a time as any to see what Olipop brings to the table and if it’s worth the price.
