Man Utd rising star could lock down FA Cup final starting spot today - opinion
Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo could strengthen his case with a fine display against Brighton & Hove Albion to get a starting spot in the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
Diallo is in superb form lately, putting on sound displays in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and 3-2 victory over Newcastle United.
Erik ten Hag started him in two consecutive games for the first time and repaid his faith.
Diallo was part of the few attacking moments United created against the Gunners but had to come off the pitch due to an injury. He took his performance to another level against the Magpies. He assisted Kobbie Mainoo’s goal and restored his side’s lead with a breathtaking half-volley.
His overall display was eye-catching as he showed his attributes in handling the ball in tight spaces.
United face Brighton at the Amex Stadium today in the final Premier League game of the season.
The stakes are high for the Red Devils as they are still in contention to earn European football for next season.
Even with Marcus Rashford returning to fitness, Ten Hag may find it difficult to drop Diallo from the starting XI today.
The 21-year-old must seize the opportunity against the Seagulls to make it even harder for the Dutchman to exclude him from the FA Cup final line-up.
Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund form the best attacking three on paper for the Red Devils.
However, another goal today could force Ten Hag to continue with the Ivory Coast international on the right wing.
Garnacho is a guaranteed starter for United, leaving the Dutchman to choose between Rashford and Hojlund for next week.
