CT man accused of following teen girls into woods behind school, attempting to sexually assault them
A Connecticut man who allegedly followed two teenage girls into the woods behind a Montville school and demanded sexual acts has been extradited from Massachusetts and is facing criminal charges.
Carlos Davila, 21, of New London was extradited from Franklin County, Massachusetts, on Wednesday and brought back to Connecticut, where he is facing charges of criminal attempt to commit first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, according to the Connecticut State Police.
The charges stem from July 2021, when police say Davila met two girls at Oakdale Elementary School in Montville, followed them into the woods and demanded one of them perform a sex act, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Davila allegedly placed his hands on one of the girls’ shoulders, “pushed her to her knees” and exposed himself, the warrant affidavit said.
The girls ran away and one reported the incident the next day, according to the warrant affidavit.
On July 21, 2021, state police were called to a home in the Oakdale section of Montville after one of the girls, then 14 years old, alleged that a man, then 19 years old, had propositioned her for sex, the warrant affidavit said.
Officers spoke with the girl — identified in the warrant as “Victim 1” — and her family and learned that she had met Davila through a friend and had spoken to him online, according to the warrant affidavit.
She alleged that she told Davila she was 14 and did not know he was older than her, the warrant affidavit said.
When they planned to meet, she said brought a friend because she did not feel comfortable going alone, according to the warrant affidavit. She said she and her friend agreed that the meet up “would not be sexual,” the warrant affidavit said, but that Davila allegedly “made it clear it was for sex.”
After meeting at the school, the girl told state police Davila briefly went to a store, came back and allegedly followed the girls up a hill to some nearby trails, according to the warrant affidavit.
There, she said, he allegedly asked them “who is going to do it,” and exposed himself, the warrant affidavit said.
He also allegedly tried to convince one of the girls to get into his car “to do sexual stuff” and allegedly said he wanted to smoke marijuana with them, according to the warrant affidavit.
Investigators also interviewed the other girl, identified in the warrant affidavit as “Victim 2.”
The girl told state police she was with her friend, “Victim 1,” talking about a man she met on Instagram. She said the man allegedly called the girl, telling her to meet them at the school, the warrant affidavit said.
She corroborated seeing Davila push her friend onto her knees, according to the warrant affidavit. She also told state police she allegedly saw her friend message Davila before the meet up, telling him how old she was, the warrant affidavit said.
When shown a photo lineup by investigators, both girls reportedly identified Davila as the man they met with, according to the warrant affidavit.
An arrest warrant was issued in December 2021, but state police said Davila fled to Massachusetts, where he was arrested and sentenced on unrelated charges.
On Wednesday, Connecticut troopers went to Franklin County Jail in Massachusetts and took Davila into custody, state police said.
Davila was being held at Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville in lieu of a $150,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Norwich on Thursday, according to state police.
