MLB fans were in awe as A's closer Mason Miller completely embarrassed José Altuve in a devastating strikeout
The Oakland Athletics went into the season as a popular pick to finish with the worst record in baseball. And though we’re still early into the season, the A’s have been surprisingly competitive.
It certainly helps to have the most unhittable pitcher in baseball closing out games.
Mason Miller has already made waves around MLB for his overpowering velocity and nasty slider that has made even the best hitters look hopeless at the plate. José Altuve happened to be the latest All-Star to fall into that category.
With Altuve batting in the eighth inning of a tie game on Tuesday, Miller made the Astros star look like a Sunday league hitter with a four-pitch strikeout. Altuve won’t be in any rush to revisit this in the film room.
The entire sequence was masterful pitching.
Miller started Altuve off with three straight sliders — all of which had vertical breaks around 40 inches. The three sliders clearly had Altuve guessing because Miller finished the at-bat off with a 102 mph fastball near the outside corner, freezing Altuve.
Altuve knew it right away. Miller is just that good — he’s like a create-a-player.
MLB fans were also left impressed with another dominant showing by the A’s closer.
