Sports Briefs: San Domenico runners advance to Meet of Champions
San Domenico senior Joaquin Foster stood on the podium at the at the North Coast Section Class A Meet with a pair of runner-up finishes.
Foster took second place in the boys 800 (1:58.30). Teammate George Kunze placed fourth (1:59.97). Foster was also second in the 1600 with a new PR of 4:21.64. The Panthers’ Devin Price finished fifth (4:28.64) ahead of Branson’s Jasper James (4:29.49) in sixth.
The top three finishers secured a berth in the NCS Meet of Champions, to be held Friday and Saturday in Dublin.
The Panthers’ Omar Williams took second in the 300 hurdles (41.98) and third in the 110 hurdles (16.04), both personal best times.
San Domenico’s Chidera Onyeukwu showed he can jump on the basketball court, and showed it again with a third-place finish in a three-way shodwown in the high jump. All three top finishers cleared 5-10.
Marin Academy senior Daniel May placed fifth in the boys 400 (53.47).
On the girls side, San Domenico’s Petra Betti’s PR of 25.85 was good enough for third place in the 200. Marin Academy’s Luella Shepard took fifth in the 3200 (11:46.42).
Branson’s girls 4×800 relay team finished fourth (10:22.91), ahead of San Domenico (10:40.60).
The Wildcats’ Esme Morrison finished in a tie for third place at 4-08 in the high jump. San Domenico’s Maple Silverstien took fourth place in the triple jump (32-01.75).
• San Rafael resident and Marin Waves Track Club standout Ellie McCuskey-Hay of St. Ignatius qualified in four events for the Central Coast Section Championships, to be held Saturday in Gilroy. McCuskey-Hay won the 100 in 12.03 seconds on Saturday in the CCS regional meet and anchored her 4×100 meter relay team to a second-place finish (48.65). She won her heat in the 200 (24.75) and hit the mark at 17-4 in the long jump.
Prep swimming
Terra Linda’s Ben Butler took eighth place in the boys 200 free (1:37.37) and was 16th in the 100 free (45.67) at the CIF State Swimming championships on Saturday. The Trojans’ Nicholas Arinduque was 15th in the boys 100 back (56.25). Tam’s Addison Everage finished 14th in the girls 100 back (56.33).
Boys tennis
Julian Zhang picked up a win at No. 1 singles, but Redwood fell to California, 6-1, in Saturday’s North Coast Section semifinals at James Logan High.
College baseball
Former Kenyon College and Marin Academy pitcher Alex Got has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference’s All-Decade team.
