Nine teenagers arrested after fights at Amsterdam High School
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Nine teenage boys were arrested after a fight at Amsterdam High School. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to the school Monday morning for reports of altercations between multiple students.
Six of the students were charged with third degree attempted assault. Three others were charged with disorderly conduct. The sheriff said more charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
The superintendent said the district is committed to creating a culture of respect. Students were put into a "hold in place" procedure for more than an hour on Monday morning while police responded.
District leaders were scheduled to meet with city officials and law enforcement to discuss ways to effectively address behavior concerns.
