Ricky Council on Tobias Harris: 'He's helped me a lot, he gets a lot of hate and I don't know where it comes from'
“Until then, which was literally in New York the other day, he gave me nothing,” Council IV added. “All he was giving me was advice and helping me. ‘When we’re at halftime, be the first one out.’ There’s a lot of things. I can’t even put everything into words, but he’s helped me a lot. He gets a lot of hate and I don’t know where it comes from. He’s a really good person. And obviously Tyrese (Maxey). He’s helped a lot, too. He’s more around my age, so it’s kind of like a big brother and a middle-aged brother. Yeah, them two for sure.”

When asked which veteran was the most impactful for him, Council IV showed no hesitation. It was Tobias Harris. “Tobias Harris,” he said bluntly. “My guy. He was real big for me. Just from the beginning of the year, I figured that was kind of my position — the three/four — so I was just watching him. And he’s the type of vet–some people are going to be like, ‘I love this vet because he gave me a lot of money, he got me things, he took me shopping.’ That was never him. He didn’t get me my first materialistic thing until the other day. He gave me a bag because he didn’t like the duffel bag I was wearing. He got me a Goyard bag, so I appreciate that.” -via Sixers Wire / May 9, 2024
Jimmy Butler’s future in Miami has become an increasingly hot topic in league circles in the wake of the Heat’s first-round exit. Butler has one guaranteed season left on his contract at $48.8 million before a $52.2 million player option for 2025-26. The 34-year-old, who turns 35 in September, will be seeking a contract extension this summer, meaning that the Heat risk alienating their post-Dwyane Wade face of the franchise if they prioritize future flexibility and an extension is not hashed out. More than rival one team out there has likewise wondered whether Philadelphia, in the wake of its first-round exit, will mount a trade run at Butler to reacquire Joel Embiid’s close friend if the 76ers are unsuccessful in using their projected $50-plus million in salary cap space to acquire presumed top target Paul George. Butler’s highly successful stay on South Beach, of course, began when the Sixers prioritized retaining Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris over Butler and agreed to sign-and-trade him to Miami when the Heat had minimal salary cap space. -via marcstein.substack.com / May 5, 2024
