Brooklyn man accused of attempted murder in Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Brooklyn man was arrested and is accused of second-degree attempted murder, and more, in Amsterdam. Travis Smith, 49, faces multiple charges.
On April 16, around 11 a.m., Amsterdam police say they responded to West Main Street and Bayard Street for reports of a shooting in the area. Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies and New York State Police responded too.
Police say witnesses claimed a suspect, later identified as Smith, fired a gun on the front porch of a Bayard Street home. After further investigation and a canvass of the area, police say Smith fired the gun at another man walking on the sidewalk after a dispute.
Police say the bullet struck a nearby home and no injuries were reported. Smith allegedly fled the scene and an investigation found he went to Brooklyn.

- First-degree attempted assault
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- First-degree reckless endangerment
Smith was arrested on Wednesday and arraigned in Amsterdam City Court. He is remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
