Historic Cherry Hill reopens for tours
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An historic mansion in Albany is reopening its doors this week to visitors. Cherry Hill tells a story of America through the lives and experiences of one Albany household.
Built in 1787 for Philip and Maria Van Rensselaer, Cherry Hill served as a home until the 1960s when it opened up as a museum. Cherry Hill holds thousands of artifacts and manuscripts, all of which were accumulated by the homeowners over the course of five generations.
The yellow landmark recently underwent a major renovation project to stabilize and restore the property.
"Even if you've never been to the house, everyone knows that yellow house on South Pearl Street, and I think it's similar to Albany," Marketing and Community Engagement Associate LaReina Torain said. "Everybody knows about Albany, but there is so many hidden gems here, and we're similar to that. We have a hidden gem here."
Tours are available from noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
