Indian Ladder Trail at Thacher Park reopens after fallen rock removed
VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Indian Ladder Trail at Thacher State Park in Voorheesville has reopened to hikers. It was closed for a couple weeks after some rocks fell off the Helderberg escarpment.
The ropes access team from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation spent the past several days examining the cliff face and using monitoring devices to detect loose debris or rock movement.
"There's nothing better than getting a person on the wall to get that perspective because sometimes things look fine, but they're actually not," NYS Parks Rope Access Coordinator Andrew Chouinard said.
The ropes team conducts inspections and routine maintenance every year. The trail is safe to use, but experts said it is always a good idea to keep a close eye on your surroundings.
