Topeka spends thousands for domestic violence prevention
TOPEKA (KSNT) — The Capital City is using nearly $488,045 from the Department of Justice to prevent domestic violence.
This year in Topeka, there have been five homicides. The City told 27 News two of those are domestic-related cases. And last year, there were 36 homicides, with three domestic-related cases and five victims.

Working for you, 27 News asked the city how this would help curb domestic violence in the community.
"This money will allow us to break the cycle of violence, which is really what we are focused on doing here at the city," Topeka Chief of Prosecution Kelly Trussell said. "That will be allowing us to pay for programming for drug and alcohol treatment."
The City is partnering with the local family peace initiative to provide treatment to batterers.
