Uzbek foreign minister emphasizes acceleration of ‘Trans-Afghanistan’ project
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has announced that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the country, in a meeting with Bakhtiyor Saeedov, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, have requested an acceleration of the process for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project, known as “Trans-Afghanistan.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 8, the ministry stated that these meetings were to discuss the expansion of bilateral trade relations, investment, and communication projects.
The statement mentions that the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan emphasized in this meeting the need to expedite efforts for the early realization of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway project or “Trans-Afghanistan.”
Previously, Uzbek authorities have emphasized that the “Trans-Afghanistan” railway project, connecting Central Asia through Afghanistan to Pakistan, will be completed by the end of 2027.
According to reports, the establishment of a railway line between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan would facilitate and expand trade and economic relations among the regional countries.
It is worth mentioning that the project to build the Trans-Afghanistan railway line connecting Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan was proposed in 2018 with a cost of over four and a half billion dollars, aiming to create an economic corridor.
