Parker is entering a new role as the president of Adidas women’s basketball, according to a joint announcement from her and the company itself. Parker just officially announced her retirement from the WNBA a couple of weeks ago. She played in the league for 16 seasons after being drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2008.
In her new role with Adidas, she’ll be running a different team. She released a statement on her new leadership role via Twitter.
“This new leadership role symbolizes a shared commitment to making impactful change and setting new benchmarks for the future of women’s sports. it’s about fostering a movement focused on representation, access and innovation,” she said.
This role for Parker is so well deserved and, honestly, it’s been a long time coming. If she weren’t still playing ball, it’d have probably happened a long time ago.
