2 charged after police respond to large fight in Dunkirk
DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Two people are facing charges after Dunkirk police claimed they were attacked while responding to a large fight on Deer Street.
The incident took place this past Friday night. Police said that while they were trying to get information about the fight, several people began shoving them, and one person allegedly started fighting with officers.
While police tried to place Miguel A. Velez, 21, into custody, authorities said a large group began surrounding them, with some allegedly trying to obstruct them and pull them off Velez.
Omar A. Salome-Hernandez, 34, was accused of kicking an officer while he was on the ground. Additionally, they said he grabbed a chair and started to advance on them. Salome-Hernandez then fled from the scene.
Velez was taken into custody and charged with obstructing governmental administration, while a warrant was filed for Salome-Hernandez. He was accused of the same charge, along with resisting arrest.
Police eventually located and arrested Salome-Hernandez on Monday.
