NYSDOH gives an update on flu prevalence
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald announced on Wednesday that the influenza virus is no longer prevalent in the state for the 2023-2024 flu season. This is due to flu cases continuing to decline.
The announcement also rescinds the masking requirement for healthcare workers who do not have a flu vaccine. This follows the State Health Commissioner declaring flu was prevalent in the state in December, requiring healthcare professionals to wear masks without the vaccine.
“As influenza season winds down and the virus is no longer prevalent in New York, we are rescinding the masking requirement for health care workers in hospitals, nursing homes, and adult care facilities who have not been vaccinated against flu,” Dr. McDonald said. “However, as the virus continues to circulate, I recommend appropriate precautions, such as staying home from work or school if you are sick to prevent spreading illness.”
