Three killed, five injured in Faizabad explosion, official says
Abdul Matin Qaneh, the spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, announced that an explosion in the city of Faizabad killed three security members of the group and injured five others.
On Wednesday, May 8th, Mr. Qaneh said on his social media platform X that this incident is under investigation by the group’s police.
He said the explosion occurred as Taliban police forces were passing through the area to destroy poppy cultivation.
According to the statement: “Around 11 AM today, a previously installed sticky mine on a motorcycle in Faizabad city, Badakhshan province, exploded.”
The provincial hospital claimed that at least 6 bodies and 14 injured had been transferred to the hospital.
The injured people are under medical treatment, and the investigation is going on by the Taliban police security forces.
This explosion occurred while in recent days, several districts in Badakhshan, including Argu and Darayim, have witnessed widespread anti-Taliban protests.
Protesters have said that the Taliban have deployed forces from southern provinces to Badakhshan who do not understand the local language and mistreat the people. They have demanded the expulsion of these “non-native” Taliban forces from Badakhshan.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
