New York slapping big fines on sports cars in effort to limit noise
Authorities in New York, seeking to quieten down the city that never sleeps well, have begun issuing fines to drivers of excessively noisy cars, and even drivers of unmodified sports cars are reportedly falling foul of new rules.
Officials have been levying the fines since last December as part of a new noise abatement pilot program, which also aims to curb excessive car horn honking.
U.S. car magazine Car & Driver quoted one driver who said he received an $800 noise violation ticket for creating too much of a din with his 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera S.
