My mum edits pictures to make me look skinnier – people say I should be ‘broken hearted’ but I know she’s trying to help
A WOMAN has explained how her mum edits pictures of her to make her look skinnier – with other people admitting they’d be “broken hearted” if they were her daughter.
Sabrina called herself the “daughter of a Facetune mum”, admitting that her mother uses the photo-editing app to alter every single picture – regardless of whether she’s in it herself or not.
“My mum edits the crap out of all of her pictures, and she also edits the crap out of me,” she said.
“I found a couple more pictures that have fallen victim to Facetune mum and I thought I would show you them.”
Sharing a snap from Mother’s Day, Sabrina showed the original, and then the Facetuned version.
“My weight has fluctuated a lot over the past few years, and I think this was close to my heaviest,” she said.
“So I don’t think my mum was really used to seeing me at that size.
“But yeah, she slimmed me down a lot.”
Sabrina then showed another snap from “a few years ago”, when she was “also at a heavier weight”.
“This is how she Facetuned it. Crazy,” she said.
“She made me skinny. It’s a close up comparison of how she edited me.
“My arm has never been that skinny!”
However, Sabrina insisted she doesn’t take offense when her mum lets rip with Facetune.
“I know how my mum is, so I don’t really take it personally or get offended,” she said.
“But I just think it’s crazy to edit other people like that. You wanna Facetune yourself? By all means, go ahead.
“You do you.
“But to edit someone else.
The biggest celebrity photoshop fails
WE all knows that celebrities use Photoshop to make themselves look better, but sometimes there are telltale signs that the snaps have been digitally altered. Here's some of the biggest photoshop fails of all time:
Kris Jenner
She may be the world’ most famous “momager” but even the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kris Jenner, is prone to the odd Facetune fail.
In 2014, the 68-year-old influencer uploaded a snap where she was posing with celeb chef Gordon Ramsay, 57, on Instagram.
The cooking whizz, who recently welcomed his sixth child with wife Tana Ramsay, also shared the same on his feed – but there was a slight difference.
Whilst the chef had left the image as-is, Kris had gone in pretty heavy with some serious editing – and fans were left in hysterics by the stark contrast.
One even went as far as saying the celeb foodie didn’t look real, wondering: ”Is it just me or is she visiting him at the wax museum?”
Madonna
The 65-year-old is one of the greatest-ever stars in the music industry – but when it comes to editing photos, things haven’t always gone so smoothly (pun intended).
Since returning to social media, Madonna has shared quite a few selfies where her skin appears suspiciously young, with fans even comparing the youthful glow to that of a teenager.
In one such Insta post, the Princess of Pop was hugging a humongous bouquet of pink roses, with her signature blonde hair in a plait.
Stunned at the makeover, music fans raced to comments in total confusion, as one asked: ”Who made your face?”
”How many filters dies one need yo make them look as though they are 12 years old,” someone else chimed in.
”Who is this?!!! Sure he’ll isn’t Madonna! This girl looks like she’s 18!” another penned.
Khloe Kardashian
Khloe, 39, is frequently called out on social media for altering her looks to the point of looking like a different person.
In May 2020, the Kardashians star uploaded a series of photos that went viral, but not for the right reasons.
Fans said they never would have guessed they were pictures of Khloe.
Not helping her case was that the photos appeared to have been taken the same day that she shot confessionals for Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
In the reality TV scenes, Khloe — dressed in the same white bustier top with identical hair and makeup — looked much more like the star fans have grown to love.
Fans accused her of Photoshopping herself, citing as proof the fact that half of the chain on her butterfly necklace was missing from the set of pictures.
Kim Kardashian
She may not have made herself look like a different person entirely, but Khloe’s sister Kim Kardashian, 43, has ignored countless accusations of Photoshop over the years.
In 2022, a savvy TikTok user Caroline in the City, a commercial photographer and digital media literacy expert, explained why she thought believed Kim had Photoshopped her neck in a pool shot.
She said Kim removed the trapezius muscle from her neck and shoulders in an attempt to make her back look smaller.
Chloe Sims
Towie star Chloe, 42, is a natural beauty – which is why fans were baffled when she posted a “Facetuned” photo earlier this month, posing next to Rita Ora.
The reality star, from Essex, was called out for overdoing it with the app, as followers pointed out it didn’t look anything like her in person.
The post, which has since had commenting turned off, sees the stunner gleaming with bright veneers, a tanned complexion and red carpet-ready curls.
However, whilst some were surprised to the see duo hang out on a night-out in California, others were more shocked at Chloe’s unrecognisable face.
”Wow how photoshopped is this pic,” an Instagram user wrote.
“By edit I mean like fully change what someone actually looks like I just think is kind of weird behaviour.”
She added that she would definitely find it strange if anyone other than her mum edited pictures of her.
“I got a lot of comments from people saying like, ‘oh, this is such a blessing’,” she said.
“‘I wish my mum did this. She posts the worst pictures of me’.
“And I totally get that. I don’t like when my mom post bad pictures of me too.
“But the thing is, the editing doesn’t make the picture better.
“It doesn’t make me like a picture more.
To edit the crap out of pictures to fully change what someone looks like is weird behaviour
Sabrina
“Like in this picture, when my mom edited me from this to this, I still don’t think I look good.
“Like, I don’t think this is a good picture.
“And slimming my face down and my arm down doesn’t make me like it more!”
Concluding her video, Sabrina insisted she “still loves” her “Facetune mum”, adding: “She’s actually pretty good at editing pictures, even though some of her edits have been hilariously bad.
“She’s an icon!”
“Skinny legends always,” Sabrina captioned the video.
But people in the comments section insisted they would find it highly offensive if their mum were to edit pictures of them.
“This makes me so sad, I’m so sorry,” one wrote.
“This breaks my heart. I’m so sorry,” another added.
“The way I gasped and got chills,” a third commented.
“I’m sorry, you deserve better,” someone else said.
“I hope you’re able to grow and heal.”
“The growing never stops but the healing (in this aspect at least) has been done years ago,” Sabrina replied.
