‘Selling The OC’ Season 3 Drama: What Happened With The O Group?

Selling The OC is back on Netflix for Season 3, and this season is nothing short of dramatic. The lucrative world of real estate in Orange County, California, may be full of million-dollar homes and all the luxuries you could think of, but all the money in the world can’t stop the gossip. Season 3 has explosive arguments, will-they-won’t-they moments, and plenty of catty callouts to keep you binging every thirty-minute installment. So, let’s get into what happened this season. 

Why Are Gio and Kayla Beefing?

The season starts with Kayla Cardona, a hardworking single mom, reaping the benefits of her efforts by earning a 28-million-dollar listing. This achievement, however, sparks a conflict with Gio Helou, leading to a tense situation that would implode their existing friendship and respect for each other. Gio feels he is owed a piece of that 28-million-dollar pie because “upper management” called and asked for his listing strategies just before Kayla received the listing. He feels slighted for giving insight and advice and receiving nothing in return. This turns into heated discussions between the two, resulting in Gio telling Ali Harper to keep her eyes open for Kayla and be wary of their friendship. 

What’s Going on With Alex and Tyler?

Alex Hall and Tyler Stanaland are the Queen and King of dancing around their feelings for each other, constantly leaving the viewer to scream at the TV, “Just go out already!” Season 3 is no different, and the two continue to do the crazy dance around any actual commitment or even real, honest conversation. Alex is upset that Tyler is never direct or takes any charge, and Tyler feels like the two are never on the same page. He says he wants a family, a marriage, and someone to spend his life with, but he can’t seem to pursue Alex without getting scared.

After a few mishaps and Alex starting to date someone else in London, the two have a real honest conversation. Alex says the only thing holding her back from diving head-first into this new relationship is the possibility of one with Tyler. The conversation is left relatively unresolved, and the show ends on a cliffhanger with Alex texting someone that she will see them soon with heart emojis. Is it to Tyler? Or the London man? We will have to wait until Season 4 to find out.

What’s The Deal with Sean?

Where do I even begin with Sean Palmieri and his out-of-the-blue beef with Austin Victoria, Tyler, and Gio? It all starts with Sean spreading a rumor that Austin and his wife, Lisa, propositioned him for a threesome after giving him marijuana cookies. This doesn’t sit well with Austin, who confronts Sean at the O Group Office. The conversation gets heated, and Austin pushes Sean after Sean repeatedly claims he didn’t make up the rumor but then reinforces that the rumor is true. It’s a very confusing moment and knowing what to believe is hard.

This tension transpires throughout the show as Sean tries to make amends with Tyler, but Tyler is uninterested in being friends with him. When Tyler denies wanting to be his friend, Sean says that Tyler has hit on him in the past, been possessive of their friendship, and even pursued him. Sean spills all this tea in front of the O Group, but he doesn’t realize that his story has changed slightly, and Kayla caught on. Initially, Sean told Kayla about the marijuana cookies and dinner, but in the final argument he has on the show, he says there were no marijuana cookies or dinner. Now, the rest of the group, except for Alex Jarvis, are questioning whether Sean is truthful. 

How Is New Girl Ali Fitting In?

Season 3 is the first time we see Ali Harper in full swing as a soon-to-be agent at the O Group. We met her briefly at the end of Season 2, but Season 3 shows who she is and how she fits into the group. She’s falling into place hanging out with Alex Jarvis, Kayla, and Brandi Marshall, and about halfway through the season, she has completed all of her real estate hours to take the exam and become a licensed agent.

Even though she’s not an agent, that doesn’t stop her from getting involved in the drama. Ali calls out Alex Hall for being a liar after Hall claimed she didn’t speak negatively about Kayla on a podcast. The girls find the podcast and hear Hall say Kayla needs to be medicated, so Ali takes it upon herself to call her a liar and a bad person. It seems Ali should be more focused on learning real estate in the area instead of the drama because she almost tanked a showing for Gio. Jason Oppenheim suggests that while Gio is out of town, he allows Ali to run a showing of his to give her some exposure. Outside of knowing the square footage and number of bedrooms and bathrooms, Ali knew nothing about the home and couldn’t answer any questions for potential buyers. Big crash and burn, Ali. Let’s hope Gio lets you live this one down.
