Oklahoma City metro assessing damage after storms
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Monday night’s storms wreaked havoc on the metro’s south side.
“There's power lines down everywhere and it's dangerous to walk,” said Ricky Rose. “It scared my dog.”
OG&E said a tree fell on a power line, causing damage to the intersection of SE 66th Street and Shields Boulevard.
Crews were out bright and early Tuesday making repairs. OG&E said there’s no estimated time for when the intersection will be fully fixed yet. Customers can check System Watch for the latest updates.
Right down the street, leaders at the Ruth Dropkin Head Start preschool woke up to tree limbs and debris scattered throughout its playground area.
"As long as it's not lives and it's not people will be okay with that,” said Curtiss Mays, the Head Start Program Director.
The school closed Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.
“Considering everything that could have happened last night, I think we came out very lucky,” said Mays.
A family metro business, Jess Ashley and Sons Paint Company, also took a hit.
"We came in here and I thought, ‘Oh, my God,’” said Brenda Kunkle.
The company has been in Kunkle’s family for more than 40 years.
Their front fence is toppled over on its side and there’s a gaping hole in the roof.
"We're almost done getting their yard cleaned up,” said Kunkle. “But this might take a little bit."
The family’s plan is to fix it up and reopen as soon as possible.
"We're all we're all strong and everybody pitches in,” said Kunkle. “We got a lot of people counting on us."
