Electric scooter fire forces residents out of NE Portland apartment building
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A fire in Northeast Portland chased several people out of an apartment building Tuesday morning.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, crews arrived just before 9 a.m. to find alarm bells sounding and people in front of the building, but no sign of the fire.
After hearing reports of smoke and water coming out of a first-floor room, believed to be the garbage collection room, crews went to work fighting the fire.
Firefighters said they learned that some residents hadn't left their apartments and they began working to clear the building.
During the search of every floor, officials said they found an electric scooter burning, which they said was the source of the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
