‘I’m also not good enough’ – Heung-min Son critical of his own Spurs performances
Son Heung-min was extremely dejected after Tottenham’s loss at Anfield on Sunday, with the South Korean putting his hands up after the game and admitting that his own performances have not been up to the mark of late.
Son has had an exceptional season, having scored 17 times and provided nine assists in 32 Premier League matches in 2023-24 (Transfermarkt).
However, much like the rest of the Spurs squad, the South Korean’s form has fallen off a cliff recently. He has struggled to impact the game in the number nine role in recent weeks and that was once again the case in the first-half against Liverpool.
The Tottenham captain was a lot more influential after he was moved to the left in the second half following Richarlison’s introduction, even getting on the scoresheet in the latter stages as the away side came away with a 4-2 defeat.
Heung-min Son is not happy with his own form
Son remarked after the game that he is always driven to produce his best whenever he puts on a Spurs shirt and confessed that he has not been happy with his own displays recently.
Son told the club’s official channel: “As captain, I’m also not good enough so I want to always push as hard as possible because this means something for me, wearing this shirt and also for everybody.
“So when you play in the Premier League and you’re also young or an experienced player, it doesn’t matter when you put the shirt on, you’ve got to give everything.”

We are lucky to have a captain like Sonny, who deeply cares about the club and does not shirk responsibility. However, it is clear that he is not particularly well suited to leading the line on his own against well-organised defences.
