Jewel Is Glowing in a Rare Photo With Lookalike Son Kase
Jewel looks dazzling in a rare new photo with her 12-year-old son Kase. The “You Were Meant for Me” singer has mostly been private about her relationship with her only son, but she proudly praised him during a recent public appearance that will melt your heart.
The preteen, who Jewel shares with ex Ty Monroe Murray, attended the May 3 VIP opening of his mom’s exhibit The Portal: An Art Experience by Jewel. In the photo (which PEOPLE has HERE), Jewel wore a stunning nude bodysuit dress with an artistic 3D metal design. Her curly blonde hair was worn up as she posed with her arm around her son.
Case wore a white bandana headband over his long brown hair, paired with a stylish white suit and a matching white t-shirt underneath. He stands next to his mom, only a little bit shorter than her, and smiles. They have the same nose and big, bright eyes, making them look like twins!
In an interview with PEOPLE, Jewel opened up about how motherhood has “changed a lot over the years.” She explained, “I’m a lot more present. I think I’m a present mom now, which I really worked hard on. It wasn’t easy in the beginning for me to be really present.”
Now, her relationship with Kase is light-hearted fun. “I’m very silly. I think if you asked my son what I’m like, we laugh a lot. We’re very, very, very silly,” she continued. “We’re ridiculous. We wrestle a lot, my son and I. I didn’t think that’s the type of mom I’d be, but we play fight every day. It’s so funny.”
Jewel displayed an incredible oil portrait of Kase that she painted, which represents “mothering and my devotion to mothering.” She told the outlet, “Mothering is not given a whole ton of credit in our world. We’re just expected to be brilliant mothers and brilliant at work, and it’s not given a lot of space and time to be celebrated.”
She continued, “I have less mothering ahead of me than I have behind me, and it’s so sad, so it was a way of me dealing with my own feelings about my son getting older and the transitions we’re going to both be making in our life.”
The Grammy-nominated singer recently shared another photo with her son on Instagram, this time with the duo in matching black hats. They held up the finished oil painting for the photo, which Jewel explained in audio over the photo.
“This is a painting of my son, and in the background, I wrote a poem,” she says. It begins: “Child of mine, flesh of my flesh, mirror eyes reflecting back to me. Your laughter and echo peeled from my heart, returning home.” Listen to the whole beautiful poem HERE.
