Scott Clifton (‘Bold and Beautiful’) earned latest Daytime Emmy nom for being an ‘a–hole’ to Hope after her betrayal
Daytime Emmy darling Scott Clifton showed up again in the 2024 Best Actor race for his performance as Liam Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful.” He’s no stranger to accepting trophies from the television academy. Can he do it again? Soap Opera Digest talked to him about his nomination and, most importantly, what scenes he submitted to secure his nomination and possible win. Read the entire interview here.
Clifton sent Emmy judges scenes “when Liam confronts Hope [played by Best Actress nominee Annika Noelle] after they both come back home from Rome. He’s sort of toying with her and does this interrogation thing. He’s obviously hurt and angry because he saw her kissing Thomas, so he’s being this asshole.” SOD raved about those scenes at the time, saying that the two actors were “mesmerizing to watch” and delivered performances that were “intense” and “raw.”
The actor’s storied history at the Daytime Emmys started when he played Dillon Quartermaine on “General Hospital.” That role earned him three nominations for Best Younger Actor. He earned a fourth Younger Actor bid when he joined the cast of “One Life to Live” as Schuyler Joplin. But he truly broke through with the academy when he started playing Liam on “B&B.” He finally won Best Younger Actor on his fifth try in 2011.
Then he won Best Supporting Actor in 2013. He completed the trifecta by winning Best Actor in 2017, making him one of only two performers in soap opera history to win all three awards; the other is his current “B&B” co-star Heather Tom. This is his first nom since that historic victory. Overall he has contended at the Daytime Emmys 10 times — and he’s not even 40-years-old yet. He must always be considered a major threat for the win when nominated.
