I like wall planters along my fence but they dried out too quickly – a bike-inspired garden hack was the answer
ONE gardening guru who used to be a fan of wall planters has found an easier way to help their plants last longer.
Their inventive method uses an affordable buy that can be found on your bike.
One Redditor who has since deleted their account explained why they had developed a problem with wall planters.
“I find regular wall planters are too small and dry out too quickly, so I use bicycle baskets and line them with supermarket shopping bags,” they said.
“It’s hung on concrete reinforcement steel. The bicycle baskets come with hooks too!” they continued.
The bike item certainly seemed to be doing the growing trick.
Each basket on their fence was filled with soil and had green plants sprouting at the top.

Retail giant Walmart sells a Concord metal bicycle basket for $19.96.
Offering a large “storage capacity” that can hold up to 15 pounds of cargo, the basket can fit plenty of plants.
The sturdy item also features easy installation and removal.
Instead of hanging on your handlebars, you can simply hook it to your fence.
All you’ll need next are shopping bags.
Walmart sells reusable double handle bags for $1.98.
Wherever you get your bag from, just place one inside each basket and wait for your plants to blossom.
No more “drying out” to worry about.
The reusable and eco-friendly bag is described as being “built to last.”
Most importantly, it will securely fit your belongings – or soil.
The bag is also easy to clean and carry.
Others were also impressed with the method.
Some especially appreciated the ingenious hack for how it was ideal for those without big backyards.
“This is creative! I don’t have a whole lot of space so I’ve been looking at ways to fit more plants, this might be a winner!” wrote one user.
“This is a great idea! My husband and I did something similar to this but on a smaller scale using lattice attached to two x fours,” said another Redditor.
