I transformed my drab and boring council house hallway for just £15 – a B&Q buy made all the difference

Tyler-Mae Conway, from the UK, had recently moved into the council house and wanted to turn it into a home for herself and her daughter.

In the images, her hallway was lacking any colour or character to begin with.
But a quick trip to B&Q changed that.
She first started by adding panelling to the walls using the B&Q Cheshire Mouldings Pine Dado Wall panelling kit for £32.97.
She then painted the bottom panelled half of the wall in white and added a modern grey paint form Farrow & Ball on the top half.

After painting the walls, she then moved on to the florring.
She ditched the grey flooring and opted for some stick on tiles from B&Q in a stunning blue and orange motif pattern fro £14.99 a pack
Taking to the Facebook group, diyonabudgetofficial, the mum said: “Hey guys I just thought I’d share with you my latest little project!
“This is my council house I’m so unbelievably grateful for and each day I’m making it a home for me and my little girl, putting so much love & work into it.
“Feeling so lucky, hope you like!”
The transformation has since gone viral on the Facebook group with over 2.5k likes.
People were quick to praise the mum for how good the hallway and entrance looked.
One person wrote: “Looks bloody AMAZING. You should feel so very proud of yourself.”
Another commented: “Beautiful, you’ve done a great job.”
How to do your council house up on the cheap
- Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
- Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
- For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
- A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
- Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.
“Looks amazing!! What did you use for the panelling effect,” penned a third.
“It’s B&Q ready made panelling kits,” replied Tyler-Mae.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “It’s coming along beautifully. Wishing you all the best in your new home.”
“This is absolutely stunning well done. What colour is on the top of your walls please it’s so nice,” asked a fifth.
“London Stone, Farrow & Ball. Thank you so much,” she added.
Someone else added: “Beautiful.”
