Louisiana bill to ban permitless concealed carrying at parades fails
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - A bill that would have made it illegal to carry a concealed gun without a permit at a parade failed to pass in the Louisiana House on Monday, May 6.
HB627, introduced by State Rep. Mandie Landry, would have prohibited people from carrying concealed guns within 100 feet of a parade.
If someone has a concealed carry permit, which is not required after this July, they can bring their gun to a parade.
The bill proposed that the 100 feet include sidewalks and restaurants along parade routes during the time a permit is allowed. It would not have applied to private property or police officers along parade routes.
The bill failed to pass with 58 nays and 38 yeas. The bill passed out of the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice on April 30.
