Fire on Millersport causes brief road closure, $300K in damage
AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) -- On Tuesday morning, a fire in Amherst caused an estimated $300,000 in damage.
Crews responded to the scene on Millersport Highway just after 4:45 a.m. According to fire officials, the caller reported their kitchen was on fire.
Everyone was able to get out and the fire was brought under control just after 5:20 a.m. Although it started in the kitchen, crews are still working to find out what caused the fire.
In all, $200,000 in damage was reported to the structure and an estimated $100,000 in damage was done to the building's contents.
Millersport remained closed for a brief stretch of the morning commute between Smith Road and I-990. It was re-opened shortly after 7 a.m.
