Mechanicville baseball claims top spot in Wasaren league
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Mechanicville baseball topped Saratoga Central Catholic 4-1 Monday night to stay undefeated in Wasaren League play (13-0), and unbeaten overall (15-0).
Junior shortstop Scott Lynch got things started with a two-run homer in the top of the first, and finished 1-for-3 in the batters box, leading the Red Raiders with two RBI.
Head coach Gary Pitcheralle believes Lynch set the tone for the rest of the offense.
"Really proud of him," said Pitcheralle. "Happy for him to really start off the game like that. Really kind of carried that momentum; carried that leadership throughout the whole game."
Junior pitcher Chris Couser threw seven innings and struck out five batters, allowing three hits and one run. He said he knew what the Saints were bringing to the diamond once the series started.
"Feels great; we got one more to go," said Couser. "We knew it was going to be a pitcher's duel going into it, and I'm glad we were able to come out on top."
The two sides will meet again in Mechanicville on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
