This may be a tough period for Ange Postecoglou at Spurs, but he’s actually doing better than Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp were at this stage of their respective tenures at Arsenal and Liverpool.
With four straight defeats now, it would be natural to be a little disappointed and worried about the way Tottenham are performing under Ange Postecoglou right now.
The 4-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday capped off a terrible week for Spurs, in which they had also lost to London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal.
The Lilywhites are still fifth in the Premier League table, but Champions League qualification now seems nigh impossible. Indeed, Spurs will be looking over their shoulders at Newcastle in sixth, who are in fine form heading into the final fixtures of the season.
Postecoglou outperforms Klopp and Arteta’s first seasons
So, is it time to panic? Well, no. Actually, when you look at the number of points both Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta had picked up in their first seasons at Liverpool and Arsenal after 35 games, Postecoglou is ahead of the curve.
Postecoglou now has 60 points from his first 35 Premier League games. When you compare that to Klopp’s first 35 games at Liverpool, the Spurs boss leads the way, with Klopp managing 58 points in his early days at Anfield.
The tally Postecoglou has accrued is also way better than Arteta’s first 35 games at Arsenal, where the Spaniard picked up just 50 points.

The fact that some fans are calling for Postecoglou to be sacked is just insanity. He’s done an incredible job of implementing an entertaining and, at times, very effective system of play here and the fact we might finish fifth in his first season is incredible when you think about how much he has done so quickly.
We have to be patient, good times are coming, and we must endure some difficult spells to get to where we want to be. But Postecoglou is the man to lead us there, no doubt about it.
