American soldier arrested in Russia on theft charges
U.S. security authorities and Russian media have confirmed that an American soldier has been arrested in Russia on charges of “misconduct and theft.”
NBC News reported on Monday, May 6th that Russia has recently arrested an American soldier on charges of stealing from a woman in the city of Vladivostok.
According to reports, Gordon Black, a 34-year-old Staff Sergeant who was stationed in South Korea, has been accused and arrested for stealing from a woman who had visited him in the port city of Vladivostok.
Cynthia Smith, a spokesperson for the U.S. Army, confirmed the arrest, stating that Russia has informed the United States and the army has also notified the soldier’s family.
The U.S. Army spokesperson emphasized, “Due to the sensitivity of this issue, we cannot provide further details at this time.”
According to CNN, the soldier has been arrested on theft charges and is currently in police custody.
In the past, several American citizens have also been detained by Russian authorities.
