Portal News: TJ Power Picks Virginia
All the best to him in ‘HooVille
TJ Power has been in the portal awhile and Monday he announced that he will continue his basketball career and education at Virginia.
It’s probably a smart choice. Tony Bennett’s system thrives on three point shooting and not many players do that better than Power.
Virginia is also pretty smallish so they could use some size too. At 6-9, Power will help there too.
He came to Duke as the #19 prospect in the Class of 2023, but as we say from time to time, that’s meaningless. You can group people to an extent but it’s impossible to project much from rankings except for a handful of players.
He’ll need to gain some strength and obviously he’ll have to defend well in Bennett’s Pack Line defense. We thought he applied himself on defense at Duke, but his biggest weakness will take time: as a freshman, he was just not that strong.
When he bulks up, he’ll be a handful. You can’t leave him alone and we saw at the end of the year different aspects of his game too.
We wish him the very best at Virginia other than when the Cavaliers play Duke. He came across as a really good kid and someone who we thought - and still think - is going to be good.
