Rangers vs. A’s game thread
The A’s will look to stay hot facing off against the Rangers for the second time this season
While the A’s six-game winning streak ended with yesterdays 12-3 loss, they’ve still won three series in a row and will now welcome division rivals and the former World Series Champion Texas Rangers into town for a four game series.
Good afternoon Athletics Nation, I hope you all are having a great Monday.
The Rangers and A’s met in early April in Texas when the A’s took two of three games. As of today the A’s sit just two games behind Texas in the American League West standings and third place in general.
Alex Wood gets the start for the A’s, and he had a poor start against the Rangers on April 9 only going four innings. No shocker there as Wood has surrendered 22 earned runs through 31.1 innings pitched this season — good for a 6.32 ERA. He also is amongst the top-three worst in the AL for pitches thrown per inning on average. Perhaps May can treat Wood a little more kindly.
Here’s the lineup behind Wood tonight:

The Rangers will counter with a lefty themselves, Andrew Heaney. Heaney has had a rough year himself for Texas allowing 17 earned runs across 30 innings with an 0-4 record. He is coming off his best start of the season on May 1, however, going seven strong while allowing one earned run against the Washington Nationals. I’d expect offense to lead the way tonight.
And speaking of offense, the Rangers are always scary on that front. They enter Monday with the seventh best team batting average, the sixth most RBIs, and the fourth most hits. Their usual suspects like Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim have began the season hot at the dish.
Then there’s always the ex-Athletic Marcus Semien who always seems to hurt his former club and reigning World Series MVP Corey Seager who’s actually began the year quite cold for his standard. Still, these men and even a few notable more highlight a dangerous Rangers lineup that’ll look like this:

Wood will certainly have his hands full tonight but so will Heaney. The A’s are 8-2 in their last ten and are breathing down the necks of their division rivals from Arlington. Perhaps this series can be another big statement, and it all starts tonight with a 6:40 PM PDT first-pitch.
See you soon everyone!
